Too Close For Comfort
When signing paintings, many artists sign to close to the edge, thus limiting options. Frequently we are asked to move signatures to allow for cropping, sizing or framing needs, which adds to costs.
Hold Off On The Shine
The painting is done, well almost, I just need to finish it with a gloss coating. If you are planning on prints, hold off on the shine, shiny surfaces are cursed with specular highlights which makes photographing or scanning much more difficult, and may compromise the quality of reproduction.
For artists planning on a shiny seal coat, we recommend applying after photographing or direct scanning is completed. You will be glad you did, and so will your print maker!
It's A Stretch
If your artwork is on stretcher bars, leave it stretched unless the photographer or scanner technician specifically says to remove it. When photographing or direct scanning, unstretched canvases are much more difficult to work with and may add to costs.
